Police: Man left dogs outside all weekend
BRIDGEPORT – An 83-year-old city resident was arrested after police said he left his two German Shepherd’s outside all weekend despite the below-zero temperatures.
Police said animal control confiscated dogs which were being treated at a Shelton animal hospital.
Benito Iglesias, of Union Avenue, was charged with animal cruelty and was released on a promise to appear in court.
Police said on Sunday morning officers were dispatched to a lot on East Main Street where they found the two dogs behind a fence in the lot that was filled with old tires. Police said the dogs appeared to be suffering from the cold and licked the back of an officer’s hand through the fence.
Officers managed to get into the lot where they found the only water the dogs had was from eating snow and the only food was scraps of stale bread, police said.
Police said a neighbor told officers the dogs had been out all weekend.
